bouquet of leather

Florals are an extremely popular print to wear year round. The warmer months may be coming to an end, but blouses and dresses with a floral flare aren’t leaving. Leather is a favorite amongst ladies come fall and winter. It is not only so chic, but it’s right on trend now more than ever.

Sometimes floral prints may feel just a bit too feminine for the look you’re trying to achieve. Adding an edgy touch, such as a show stopping leather jacket, is a perfect way to combine the two styles. A leather jacket would look just right over a flirty floral dress and tights or a billowy blouse and skinny jeans. Find leather jackets in every color and at all price points. Rock them with a delicate garment underneath and you’re ready for a night out this fall.

Hellllllooo David [Beckham]!

Posted on August 15, 2012 by

H&M and David Beckham are launching the second David Beckham Bodywear campaign with the help of nine 10-foot statues of the soccer player’s chiseled bod.  From Thursday to Sunday, the Beckham statues (wearing nothing but their skivvies) will be on display randomly throughout New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

The campaign is integrating Instagram, the social media platform of choice for sharing pictures, to give anyone who posts a photo of the statues with the hashtag #HMBeckham a chance to win some Beckham-esque prizes.  Prizes include: 10 mini statues of Beckham, an autographed pair of underwear and a $1,000 shopping spree at H&M.

After doing their time on the streets, the statues will be on display at H&M stores in the three cities through the end of August.  It’s a good thing these things can’t be carried away too easily because we’re sure there are folks who would love to have Beckham welcoming guests into their foyer.  Happy statue spotting!!

Maison Martin Margiela for H&M

Confirming exciting rumors, H&M announced a collaboration with French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela. Come mid-November, a ready-to-wear line for men and women will be available in H&M stores and online.

H&M’s creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch explained, “Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades. I am so excited by this radical collaboration, which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela. This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment.”

The designer label responded, “The democracy of our fashion has always been at the center of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all.”

The brand, which is famed for its cleft-toe boots and deconstructed tailoring, was purchased by Diesel founder Renzo Russo in 2002.

Maison Martin Margiela took to YouTube to advertise the partnership; watch the video here:

H&M Loves Couture

Posted on March 29, 2012 by

In 2010, there was Lanvin Loves H&M and one of the hottest names in couture met mass retail.  This year, if the rumors are true, H&M loves couture so much, they may soon offer their own luxury brand.

The company has dropped a few hints that may or may not lead to an announcement that the rumors are indeed true.  For example, Michelle Williams’ dress from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards in London was a custom-made H&M creation.

Furthermore, on April 12, H&M is planning a worldwide launch of the Exclusive Glamour Conscious Collection. The collection consists of red-carpet ready pieces made using sustainable materials.  Amanda Seyfried, Viola Davis and Kristin Davis have all been seen wearing items from the collection.

We’ll keep you posted as to whether or not there is any truth to this rumor.  Until then, keep in mind, H&M will always be the go-to store for affordable, trendy clothes, footwear and accessories.

Marni for the Masses

Posted on February 21, 2012 by

Marni speaks to the modern ‘vintage enthusiast’…which is ever-present these days.  Marni’s designs have been noted as being  ‘quirky, feminine, off-beat, and funky’…sounding like every friend we’ve ever had.  But for years, most of us ladies who gush over Consuelo Castiglioni’s designs haven’t been able to shell out the big bucks to purchase them.  Mark March 8th in your calendar, because the day is drawing near for this coveted Italian design house to join the affordable bandwagon.

On Friday night, a private LA party was held to reveal Marni’s new line for H&M.  Among the attendees – Drew Barrymore, Winona Ryder, Jessica Chastain, Sofia Coppola, Milla Jovovich, and Rashida Jones.  All were decked out in Marni’s new looks for the event, to support the new venture with the Swedish retail clothing company.  Although Marni does appeal to women initially, they are also releasing a menswear line with H&M.  Both collections are set to be released to the public on March 8th…and rumor has it, online as well.

See a video from the party below, the Sofia Coppola directed lookbook and photos of the full collection:

Luxury Meets Mass Retail

Posted on December 21, 2011 by

Affordable luxury: the fashion industry’s oxymoron. Pick up a Karl Lagerfeld jacket at Macy’s, a Missoni skirt at Target or a Lanvin dress at H&M. Until recently, this was unheard of. High-end, designer pieces were only available to the wealthy or those willing to forego paying rent for a month…or two.  These days, as in tomorrow, you can pick up a silk Versace dress at H&M for $199.

Versace for H&M

According to WWD, the collection will include apparel as well as home furnishings; a first for H&M. In September, Missoni for Target offered home furnishings that flew off the shelves as fast as the clothing flew off the racks.

We think everyone needs a little bit of luxury to maintain a fashionably-healthy lifestyle.  What’s your take on the myriad of collections and who do you think should collaborate next?

While you’re thinking about it, check out the slide show for some inspiration from previous collections.

Rumor Has It – A Tom Ford and H&M Collaboration

Posted on November 15, 2011 by

The Versace for H&M collection has yet to hit stores (UK stores are set for Nov. 17 and US stores are set for Nov. 19) and the Swedish retail chain is already rumored to follow up with a Tom Ford collaboration.

No official confirmations have been made yet.  Should a collaboration happen, Mr. Ford would join a well-established, successful list of designers who’ve already teamed up with H&M – Karl Lagerfeld, Matthew Williamson, Lanvin, Roberto Cavalli and Jimmy Choo.

Mr. Ford, former designer for Gucci, created his own TOM FORD brand and opened a film production company in 2005.  In 2006, he introduced Tom Ford Beauty.  Earlier this month, he made a special appearance for his fans at Bergdorf Goodman to celebrate the opening of his new cosmetics boutique.

What a handsomely busy man.  Stay tuned to find out if he can fit H&M into his schedule.
