Fall Films To Anticipate

Posted on September 13, 2012 by

Now that the weather is turning, it’s time to cash in your bikinis for jackets and your poolside for inside.  And with fall rolling in proper, there’s no better time to bundle up with your buddies or beau and go to the movies…especially this fall, with all of its promising features.  So what movies are you excited to see over the next few months?  Here are our top picks from now through the end of November:

Out 9/14:

Liberal Arts

Coming in hot from Sundance’s rave reviews, Josh Radnor’s second film stars himself as a college admissions officer who falls for a student, played by Elizabeth Olsen.

Finding Nemo: 3D

The question is not why, but why not?

The Master

Director Paul Thomas Anderson is at it again after “There Will Be Blood”…this time with an adaptation closely resembling the story of L. Ron Hubbard and his start of Scientology.  Starring Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Out 9/21:

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

Based on the high school literary fave by Stephen Chbosky and starring Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, and Ezra Miller as the trio of awkward teens who come into their own together through music, sex, and drugs.

17 Girls

French film about seventeen young teenagers who decide to all get pregnant together.  Wait, qu’est-ce que c’est?!

House At The End Of The Street

Well if you’re going to scare the crap out of yourself this Halloween season, it might as well be with Jennifer Lawrence as lead.

Out 9/28:

Sci-fi, action packed thriller starring Joseph Gordon Levitt looking like Bruce Willis when he was younger trying to kill his older self.  Oh, and Bruce Willis is in it too.  Confused much?  You gotta see it to put the pieces together.

Won’t Back Down

Prepare to let your faucet leak…Viola Davis is in yet another epic, female-triumphant role.  Her and Maggie Gyllenhaal plot to improve and take over the school her daughter attends because of its systematic failure.

If you can hack the subtitles for another foreign film, this one might be a hilarious and oddly heartwarming gem about a man who donates sperm early in his life, only to find out later that he has 533 children out there.

Out 10/5:

Taken 2

Continue the suspense as Liam Neeson plays the baddest dad on the planet with a very particular set of skills.

If you’re a Tim Burton fan, but can’t bring yourself to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas for the twentieth year in a row…this one is for you!

The Paperboy

A star studded film portraying a reporter (Zac Efron) who sets out to investigate a case involving a death row inmate (John Cusack).  Oh, and you get to see Nicole Kidman pee on Zac, just sayin…

Out 10/12:

Nobody Walks

A film ripe with drama…where a beautiful and aspiring film student moves into the home of a Los Angeles couple, inevitably testing their marriage.

Starring in and directed by Ben Affleck, this story is based on a too good to be true (but is) story of the CIA’s plans to extract 6 men held hostage in Iran through a covert fake film mission.

Out 10/19:

Killing Them Softly

Crime, the mob, and poker seem to go hand in hand every time.  In this adaptation of the 1974 novel “Cogan’s  Trade” by George V. Higgins, you get all of that plus a gun toting Brad Pitt!

The Loneliest Planet

Because, if you’re going to be waiting in the throws of suspense, why not do it whilst watching Gael Garcia Bernal?

Out 10/26:

Cloud Atlas

With a trailer of such proportion and a cast of such caliber, this film about our ultimate karma transcending time and space had better be good.

Chasing Mavericks

The true story of Jay Moriarty, the Californian soul surfer who was made famous when he and surfing mentor Frosty Hesson set out to master the legendary Mavericks break in Half Moon Bay.

Fun Size

Hell hath no fury like a teenage girl who has to babysit her little brother the night of her crush’s big Halloween party.  This fun high school flick is perfect if you would rather laugh than scream at your Halloween movies.

November Must Sees:

Three names:  Daniel Day Lewis.  Three words:  Best Actor Nomination.  Watch DDL as he portrays this country’s 16th president…Honest Abe.

Anna Karenina

Keira Knightley will likely be in the running for best actress for her performance as Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, the Russian aristocrat and socialite who lands herself in a very influential affair with Count Vronsky.

Silver Linings Playbook

Two crazy people make one whole entity, right?  At least, that’s what Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence character’s in this David O. Russell film are seeking to find out.

Life Of Pi

Ang Lee re-creates the aesthetically fantastical world of danger, survival ,adventure, and a Bengal Tiger named Richard Parker that Yann Martel wrote about in 2001.

Spice Girls To Reunite At Olympics

Posted on July 24, 2012 by

Hold onto your knickers, boys and girls…the Spice Girls are bouncing back!  Whether it’s simply a reunion show or something more, we’re pretty stoked to hear today that the British five-piece is joining forces once again for the London 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony. (Vogue UK)

In an interview with RTE, Victoria Beckham told reporters, “I’m so respectful of my past and I love the other girls.  We have some fantastic fans.  Who knows, maybe some day we’ll do something else with the Spice Girls.  I would love nothing more.  I don’t know about a comeback tour but I loved being back with the girls.  There was a lot of fun, we did so much together and we’ll see.  If they’re up for something then I certainly am.  We are so proud to be English and we are very excited about the Olympics.”

So what does this entail for the viewers?  Although we’d love to hear a full on Spiceworld album performance, the ladies are rumored to be bringing back only two tracks to the stage…one being the infamous “Wannabe.”  So bust out (or keep on) your Jeffrey Campbell sky-high platforms, stock up on lollies, and don’t forget your crop tops when the fab five take stage.  This reunion is one of epic proportions!

Emma Stone- Hollywood’s Newest Golden Girl Graces Cover After Cover

Posted on July 12, 2012 by

Emma Stone is quickly becoming a household name and chances are you’ve seen her on screen or in print looking fabulous, happy, and poised to take over Hollywood. Known for her breakthrough role in Superbad, this classic beauty has proven to be a marvelous actress, a serious style icon, and a role model for girls everywhere. Stone stole America’s heart with her role in The Help, and expressed her funny side in hit movies Easy A and Crazy, Stupid, Love.

You can catch Stone onscreen now in The Amazing Spider-man alongside real-life boyfriend Andrew Garfield. The two have attended premiers together and claim to be more in love than they look – we don’t know how that could be possible!

The actress has been around the world promoting the movie, one fashionable red carpet look after the other. For the Los Angeles premier Stone donned a chic Chanel dress and a pair of sky-high studded Louboutins. Bottega Veneta was the pick for the Rome premier, which she paired with a hot set of red bottoms again. In Berlin, she stunned in a white Andrew Gn dress and – you guessed it, Louboutins. Stone says her favorite fashion labels are Stella McCartney and Miu Miu.

This month, Emma graces the cover of Vogue magazine. The 23-year-old dishes about what it’s like to see her childhood dreams come true. She also nabbed the cover of Italy’s Glamour magazine and this month’s New York magazine.  Up next, UK Vogue’s August issue.  In film, Stone teams up with Ryan Gosling in Gangster Squad and there’s more to come from America’s new favorite sweetheart.

The Hottest Films of Summer 2012

Posted on June 28, 2012 by

Whether you’re planning a date night or a night out with the girls, the box office has a little something for everyone this summer. From swinging superheroes to shirtless super men, this season’s blockbusters are sure to please and leave you begging for more!

Let’s begin with a hot little film that women everywhere are planning their Friday night aroundMagic Mike! Magic Mike, which opens Friday, June 29 follows two young (and let’s just say it ladies), HOT male dancers on their quest for parties, fun and romance. While the movie may seem like just a gorgeous display of shirtless wonders, critics have called the film funny, entertaining and honest.

With Matthew McConaughey, Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer and Alex Pettyfer lighting up the big screen, this is a must-see. Grab your girlfriends and hold on to your hormones because Magic Mike is about to take you on one wild summer ride!

Nothing says summer like a superhero movie, and this summer has two of the best! July 3rd will have your Spidy senses tingling to head to the movies to check out The Amazing Spider-Man!

The Amazing Spider-Man not only comes with a fresh new cast, but also offers fans some background dirt on Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), a brand new twist on the story of Spiderman, and even a hot new love interest (Emma Stone). Packed with secrets, action and even a hint of romance, The Amazing Spider-Man is a sure bet for summer.

If after watching Spiderman spin his web of enticement you’re still itching for more superhero action, you’re in luck! The Dark Knight Rises, which opens July 20, puts Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) back in action with brand new moral dilemmas to sort through and brand new crazy villains to fight off. Eight years after the demise of Two Face and the shadow that Batman cast upon himself, he returns to save Gotham City from the rage of Bane. Armed with the sly yet slightly crazy Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), this Dark Knight film is rumored to be perhaps the best of the Dark Knight trilogy.

If you’re looking for a lighter mood in your summer films, then bring your cotton candy smile and check out Katy Perry: Part of Me, opening July 5. This documentary shines a light of true reality on the life of a celebrity as it follows the singing sensation both on and off screen.

Viewers will get to see the good, the bad and the ugly of pop life, who Katy Perry was before we all knew her and what demons, personally and professionally, she still struggles with. While the movie has been rumored to have a few down moments, let’s face it, it’s Katy Perry, everyone’s loveable California Gurl, and few personify a sweet summer night quite like she does!

So grab a date or go solo; but get to the movies ASAP! With the summer heat reaching record highs and these blockbusters on the entertainment horizon, you won’t have to think twice about summer plans.

The Great Gatsby Trailer Drops!

Posted on May 23, 2012 by

“I believe that on the first night I went to Gatsby’s house I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited.  People were not invited – they went there.”

The Great Gatsby is F. Scott Fitzgerald’s tale of an idealization gone awry, the supposed ‘American Dream’ laced with betrayal and tragedy.  We have the pleasure, present-day, to get a Baz Luhrmann adaptation that we’ve been eagerly awaiting and prying into through various paparazzi photos and rumors.  But now that the trailer is here and it is dripping with glitz and glam…all that you would expect of a Gatsby get-down…we are reminded how much we love Baz’s take on classics (not to mention the K.West score).  Watch the trailer below and look forward to opening up this cinematic gift come Christmastime!

DALLAS: From Daytime to Primetime

Posted on April 27, 2012 by

Dallas, the hit soap opera that debuted in 1978 and became one of the most successful shows in the history of television is back to take over a new generation.

From daytime soap to primetime, TNT brings Dallas back to life on Wednesday, June 13 at 9/8c with a two-hour series premiere.

You want drama?  Dallas delivers!  The show, which impressively ran until 1991, revolved around J.R. Ewing and family as they schemed and back-stabbed their way into the homes of viewers all over America.

Dallas originally debuted as a five-part miniseries which eventually led to 13 seasons spanning over a decade.  Larry Hagman starred as the powerful and greedy oil baron J.R. Ewing and Patrick Duffy played his brother, Bobby Ewing.

Money, sex, lies and power made for a good show centered around the Ewing Oil Company. TNT is promising to deliver the drama as J.R. and Bobby return to the ranch in Texas along with the next generation of Ewing’s who seem to have inherited the family’s talents of betrayal, deception and scheming.

Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and Larry Hagman return from the original cast.  They are joined by new Dallas stars Josh Henderson (Desperate Housewives and 90210) Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives and Passion), Jordana Brewster (from The Fast and the Furious movies), Julie Gonzalo and Brenda Strong (Desperate Housewives).

The future of the family fortune lies in the hands of the young Ewings.  Will you be watching the new Dallas?
