The beauty industry gets two new players: Marc Jacobs Beauty launched today and Jason Wu’s first beauty line, created in partnership with Lancôme, debuts this September.

Wu has teamed up with Lancôme to create a limited edition collection including mascara, nail polish, and eye-shadow. The busy designer has his own label to manage and he was recently named artistic director for Hugo Boss, but the self-proclaimed multitasker loves to keep busy. We’re looking forward to a pretty, feminine and classy collaboration between Wu and Lancôme.

After BB, Comes CC – Clinique Dips into Beauty’s Alphabet Soup

Fresh off of the BB cream trend that took the American beauty industry by storm in 2012, beauty brands are thinking further down the alphabet.  We’re only up to double-C’s and double-D’s at the moment, but who knows when the newest EE cream will arrive?

Clinique is leading the pack with plans to launch its new Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream Hydrating Colour Corrector Broad Spectrum SPF 30 in April.  That’s a mouthful – but that’s the point as the end result could mean achieving the coveted ‘natural glow’ look that makes it easier to shell out the beauty bucks.

The CC cream promises to correct skin tones from dark to light, while moisturizing, hydrating, brightening and providing a good dose of SPF protection.  Available in six shades, and retailing at $35, are you ready to toss your BB for a CC? [WWD]






Beauty Review: SPF Essentials from Sun Bum

Planning for warm weather vacations involves more than booking fights and hotels and packing your suitcase full of swimsuits – protecting your skin also deserves some proactive attention.  The FDA recommends using sunscreens with broad spectrum SPF values of 15 or higher.  They also suggest limiting time spent in the sun, but that becomes a challenge because your vacation is probably planned around some serious beach time.

“Love Me” Campaign from Smashbox Cosmetics

Smashbox Cosmetics invites you to be a part of beauty and Oscar history.  To celebrate the new “Love Me” collection created with artist, Curtis Kulig, Smashbox has launched a Facebook app that allows you to create your own “Love Me” billboard that you can use as your Facebook cover photo.

The billboard you create on the app will go live on Hollywood Boulevard at the iconic Roosevelt Hotel in LA during the week of the Oscars, which airs on Sunday, February 24.  In addition to being seen in LA, your creation will be live-streamed online and seen by people all over the country and around the world.

Here’s how it works:

  • Visit the Smashbox Cosmetics Facebook page to design your ultra-personalized “Love Me” billboard by choosing from three templates inspired by Kulig’s limited-edition collaboration with Smashbox Cosmetics
  • Upload the photo you want to be featured in your billboard
  • Write what “Love Me” means to you in a few words
  • Wait for your email notification about what time your billboard will go live, which will include a link to a live-stream online

Kristen Stewart for Balenciaga’s New Fragrance

In the past month, the Hollywood spotlight has been on Kristen Stewart in all of the worst ways.  But the 22 year old actress is pressing on…closing up her Twilight days with the final movie out in November, directly followed by the debut of On The Road in December.  With so much media bashing pointed in her direction, this news of Kristen’s campaign for Balenciaga’s newest fragrance, “Florabotanica,” is as fresh as the scent’s floral tones.  In the behind the scenes video below, K-Stew displays a mature presence as the French design house’s “face-of”…giving their perfume a worthy and concentrated opinion, stating that “it’s clean, pretty and natural and you don’t necessarily know you’re wearing something…but you do.”

Head designer for Balenciaga, Nicholas Ghesquière, shows confidence in his choice of campaign model for this ad.  “To me, Kristen Stewart has a very unique personality and when I met her, right away, I thought she was so Balenciaga.”  He goes on to explain how Florabotanica is an exploration in conveying the brand’s bright and dangerous side…like the extract of a dangerous flower.  Maybe Kristen really is “so Balenciaga.”

What we think: After taking these tweezers for a whirl around the eyebrows, we found it best suited for the final stages of shaping.  If it’s been a while since your last shape-up, the Sally Hansen Brows that Wow Diamond Slant Tip Tweezers are not up for the task.  However, these tweezers are determined to place the finishing touches on your look by grabbing the often over-looked hairs above the brows.
